Manjhi – the mountain man  –  Ketan Mehta, Hindi, 124 min

Dashrath Manjhi’s wife Falguni died in 1959 due to lack of medical care as the only medical facility available was in a village that was more than 70 km away from his place. Now, these 70 km was not a straight path but one had to travel across the treacherous pass through the hills. For 22 years (1960 to 1982), Manjhi, the poor labour of Gehraul Village worked day and night and carved a path of 110 m that is 360-foot-long through-cut, 25-foot-deep (7.6 m) in places and 30-foot-wide (9.1 m) to form a road through a mountain in the Gehlour hills.
Instead of supporting him the people of his village taunted him and made fun of him. However, as time went by, he started getting support from other people who would contribute in buying tools. Today, the people of this district have nothing but gratitude towards him. He died at 73 in 2007 after suffering from gall bladder cancer.
