Edito January 2015

2015 is here. The New Year has come with hopes and aspirations blossoming in everyone. Alliance française brings us in the month of January, a special moment of friendship between the two cultural giants, France and India.

Showcasing through a myriad of events covering art, literature, theatre, music, conferences, exhibitions and dance, “Pondichéry Partages – 2015” will once again light up the festive spirit in your hearts and blow a fresh air of cultural delights to the city.

A special inauguration of “Pondichéry Partages – 2015” will be held at the Maison Colombani at 7.00 pm with high profile dignitaries and a host of august delegates who will launch the glittering festival.

A literary café by the eminent and distinguished Martin Hirsch and Florence Noiville will spark off the celebrations with renowned participants and panellists to an evening of skilful oratory and parlance on January 28, 2015 at 7.00 PM

An exhibition of photographic excellence, capturing enigmatic and historical moments of World War I entitled “War & Colonies” will continue to take the festival ahead. The inauguration of this exhibition will be done by officials and dignitaries from diplomatic missions, military and defence with experts on the subject on January 30, 2015 at 7.00 PM at Maison Colombani.
The last day of the month, January 31, 2015 at 7.00 PM will rock the beach road opposite Maison Colombani by rhythms and beats invoking ancient Tamil chants funnelled through modern acoustics. The rock band Temple Rock will take over from Alexandre Jurain and Azarak, who will begin the music concert by intoxicating the public with the lesser known and yet soul stirring musical instrument – the Esaraj ! Mystic, majestic and profound will be the mood of the music fest.
As the air already ignited with festivity and flare – why should the Sunday movies stay behind?
We pay homage and remembrance to Jacques Tati (1907-1982), director, writer, and actor and who ranks among the most beloved of all cinematic geniuses. With a background in music hall and mime performance, Tati steadily built an ever-more-ambitious movie career that ultimately raised comedy to the level of high art.
Every Sunday evening at the AF Auditorium starting at 6.00 PM, the following French films of Jacques Tati with English subtitles will be screened.
January 4, 2015 Jour de fête 77 min
January 11, 2015 Les vacances de M. Hulot 74 min
January 18, 2015 Playtime 114 min

Come and enjoy our festival “Pondichéry Partages – 2015” and be a part of this vibrant and cultural fiesta along with the Alliance française !
