Application

The team of the Ecole Nomade is going to be made up of Ariane Mnouckine, founder and director of the Théâtre du Soleil, and 12 of her actors from the famous company, who are going to stay in Pondicherry to lead this project of a 100 comedians workshop, after having toured in several countries like Chile, Sweden, United Kingdom…

Le Théâtre du Soleil is a company Ariane Mnouchkine founded in 1964 with her fellows from ATEP (Theatre Association of the Students of Paris). They have settled in La Cartoucherie, a former bullet factory in Vincennes in the outskirts of Paris and base their organization on collective devised work to create a popular and yet high-quality theater. This company is often seen as a familial kind of structure where  the youngest learn from the more experienced as in a family, the mission of transmission is so inherent to the Théâtre du Soleil.

During the three weeks in December this year, we will develop together a collective practice using improvisation, masks, music, dance and movement. The sessions of the Ecole Nomade, which will all take place in English, are not drama classes. They constitute, rather, moments of practical reflection, in which we seek to set out, explain, and clarify our methods and our collective way of working.

Who?

Anyone over the age of 18 years old is free to apply. It does not matter whether or not you have studied theatre before ; but you must want to engage in the experiment of collective theatre-making. And, of course, you must be able to make yourself free to attend both the auditions and the three weeks of the Ecole itself.

When?

The Ecole Nomade will last three weeks; animated by Ariane Mnouchkine, together with twelve other members of the Theatre du Soleil, it will take place between the 14th and the 30th December 2015, except on the 25th December. Our working day runs from 10 am to 5 pm. The venue will be open from 9am and participants should be ready to start work at 10am.

All applicants will be invited, as far as possible, to one of a number of selection days – group auditions – run by two members of the Théâtre du Soleil ; these will be held between 8th and 11th December 2015.
